Starting in 2007 in the US and Canada, Daylight Saving Time (DST) will now start three weeks earlier (2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March) and will end one week later (2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday in November). This will affect the RVMs as follows:

Standalone RVMs

As always, RVMs have no knowledge of DST so the time will not be automatically changed.  The RVM prints the current time on receipts and optionally shows the current time on the LCD if the SHOW_CLOCK parameter is set to 1.

You can manually change the time in the RVM via either:
- keypad command #9,10
- use a laptop or pocket PC with WinRVM to synchronize the clock via menu item "Send to RVM | Sync RVM's clock with PC"). If WinRVM is configured to "automatically sync RVM clock with PC clock in Manual Mode" in the General Options, then you may initiate any communication with the RVM to sync the RVM's clock.

Pocket PCs

Microsoft has released a DST patch for pocket PCs. This patch can't be remotely applied.
Summary: download either:
- WM5DST.cab (for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices like the iPAQ 2190)
- WM2003DST.cab (for Windows Mobile 2003 devices like the iPAQ 2110/2215)
Use ActiveSync to copy the CAB file to the pocket PC.
Run Total Commander on the pocket PC and double-tap the CAB file to install the update (on WM5 devices the pocket PC will reset when done, on WM 2003 devices this happens quickly with no "done" notification).
Tap "start | settings | clock & alarms" and change the time zone to a different one then tap 'ok'. Return to this window and change the time zone to the proper one.
Turn the pocket PC off for 10 seconds, turn it back on, then reset the pocket PC. Verify the time and time zone are still correct.

If you don't apply this patch, here's what will happen this (and following) years:
On 3/11/07 at 2am the pocket PC will not change it's clock when it should.
On 4/1/07 at 2am the pocket PC will incorrectly change it's clock to 3am and the attached RVM's clocks.
On 10/28/07 at 2am the pocket PC will incorrectly change it's clock to 1am and the attached RVM's clocks.
On 11/4/07 at 2am the pocket PC will not change it's clock when it should.

Note: whenever the pocket PC contacts the host (for a scheduled call or error call), the pocket PC will synchronize it's clock to an internet time server, but it will not adjust for DST unless the Microsoft patch has been installed.

If the pocket PC is scheduled to make a daily call time after 2am the clock discrepancy will have minimal impact.

WinRVM automatically updates the RVM's clock every 3 minutes in Unattended Mode.

Note: if you're manually testing the DST changeover, do not hit the reset button immediately after the pocket PC pops up the time change notification window. Wait at least 5minutes before pressing reset (or turn the pocket pc off and back on so the changes "take").

WinRVM PCs

If the PC has been configured to receive automatic updates from Microsoft then it should already be patched with the new DST dates. Otherwise, you should visit Windows Update and download the patch. If the patch is not updated, the same events will occur as listed above in the pocket PC section.

WinRVM automatically updates the RVM's clock every 3 minutes in Unattended Mode.

DOS Site Controller PCs

DOS-based PCs generally don't update the time for DST automatically.
Whenever the SC calls into the TAKECALL system it synchronizes it's clock with the TAKECALL PC, so make sure the TAKECALL PC's time is always set correctly.
After every call the SC sets the clocks in all attached RVMs.
The PC and RVM clocks will be off by an hour until the SC can successfully call in. If the scheduled call time is after 2am the clock discrepancy will have minimal impact.
