The alt-C barcode clearing feature doesn't work.

The RVMs erroneously go to sleep or wake up immediately after calling in data to the host.

No events are saved to the event log.

The SC program immediately exits when run.

The PC is running very slowly, the "speed calibration" message indicates a small number (less than 1000).

"zipfile returned 37" or "zipfile returned 22" is displayed when the SC attempts to compress the Q file data as part of the scheduled data collection.

The month and day are inverted in the "setting DOS date and time" message.

The PC turns itself off.

The RVMs are not woken up or put to sleep at the appropriate time.

The site controllerís status screen shows an RVM serial number that doesn't exist.

The site controllerís status screen shows incorrect RVM status such as "customer active" when no customer is using the machine.

I changed the bin full levels, the format of a voucher, or a parameter, but the file never gets loaded to the RVM.

On power up, "program too big to fit in memory" is displayed.

SC1500:

Barcode tables are not being loaded to the RVMs even though new barcode tables have been created.

SC2000:

When pressing F8 to display the silos levels, silos 7-12 are 0 when they shouldn't be.

The SC2000 software was updated to version 2.45, but now the charity feature no longer works.

The alt-C barcode clearing feature doesn't work.
[added 3/11/08] This was fixed in ver 1.57.

The RVMs erroneously go to sleep or wake up immediately after calling in data to the host.
[added 11/19/04] This can occur if the site controller PC's clock is way off. When calling in, the PC's clock is synchronized with the takecall pc's clock. If "DOS time set by host" is listed in the log then this is the culprit.

No events are saved to the event log.
[added 3/24/04] Delete the files sc_event.log and sc_event.sav from c:\cf1500, run SCANDISK, then reboot the PC.

The SC program immediately exits when run.
[added 3/2/04] Edit SC_CTRL.PRM, set CLOCKSPEED to a value from the "Speed calibration" table below and reboot.
Normally, CLOCKSPEED is set to 0 so that the SC automatically calibrates the CPU speed.
Note: SC1500 ver 1.56 and SC2000 ver 2.52 and later fix this bug.

The PC is running very slowly, the "speed calibration" message indicates a small number (less than 1000).
[updated 10/1/03] Reboot the PC and enter the CMOS setup. Make sure the internal and external (L2) cache are both enabled.

Here are approximate speed calibration numbers for various PCs:

CPU 386 486/33 486/66  486/120  Pentium 133 Pentium 200  PII 266  AMD K6-2 350 PIII 700 Celeron 1GHz P4 2.4
Speed calibration 500-1200 2100 4300 8000  19000  24000  44000  52000 88000 110000 220000

"zipfile returned 37" or "zipfile returned 22" is displayed when the SC attempts to compress the Q file data as part of the scheduled data collection.
[added 6/5/03] This occurs when the PC has less than 2MB of RAM memory. Add more memory to fix the problem. Also make sure that DOS is loaded high to free up the maximum amount of RAM for DOS programs, do this by changing c:\config.sys as follows:

BUFFERS=40
files=80
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICEHIGH=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM
dos=high,UMB

Note that this config.sys file is for DOS PCs (no Windows). For Windows 95/98 PCs, change the two references of "\DOS" to "\WINDOWS" .

The month and day are inverted in the "setting DOS date and time" message.
[added 11/30/00]
The debug message that shows "setting DOS date and time" incorrectly inverts the day and month from versions 1.39 - 1.45. The actual setting of the date is correct, however. The SC doesn't do much validity checking on the date received from takecall prior to actually setting the date, so this may be causing some SC lock-ups. Versions 1.46 and later have enhanced date validity checking.

The PC turns itself off.
[added 2/25/00] Newer PCs (Pentium II vintage and later) usually have a different type of power switch than older PCs. If a power outage occurs, the PC may not automatically turn on when power is re-applied, unlike older PCs. The CMOS setup may have an option to boot up after a power failure.

The RVMs are not woken up or put to sleep at the appropriate time.
[updated 6/20/01] An apparent bug in the 3/20/00 CF1500 Monitor ROM may cause the SC to lose communications with the RVM, preventing the RVM from being woken up. Use the 6/29/98 Monitor ROM until a new, fixed Monitor ROM is released.
[added 11/3/99] This is a bug in all versions of the SC prior to 11/3/99. If the SC is making a phone call, it may miss the sleep/wakeup routines if the call doesn't complete within 10 seconds of the sleep/wake time.

The site controllerís status screen shows an RVM serial number that doesn't exist.
Edit RVMLOAD.DB and RVMTBLS.DB, delete all lines referencing this RVM.

The site controllerís status screen shows incorrect RVM status such as "customer active" when no customer is using the machine.
This is a known problem and will be fixed in a later version of the site controller - it does not affect the machine operation in any way.

I changed the bin full levels, the format of a voucher, or a parameter, but the file never gets loaded to the RVM.
Run SCSETUP, then the Site Controller program (just reboot the PC).

On power up, "program too big to fit in memory" is displayed.
[added 10/29/99] The SC1500.EXE or the SCSETUP.EXE file is corupt. Overwrite with a known good copy.

Site Controller (CF1500)

Barcode tables are not being loaded to the RVMs even though new
barcode tables have been created.
This can be caused by a file name mismatch. Most installations use the file names tBARCODE.TBL, where t=A,G, or P. El Diablo installations use the file names CF1500t.TBL. To fix, edit the file TEMPLATE.LST and uncomment the appropriate line by removing the ";" from the appropriate line. Make sure only one of the following lines has a ";" in front of it.

;T,CF1500%t.TBL %b
T,%tBARCODE.TBL,%b

This example uses tBARCODE.TBL for the barcode file names.
To use CF1500t.TBL for El Diablo installations: remove the ";" in front of the first line, and add a ";" to the beginning of the second line. Run SCSETUP to make the changes take effect, then re-run the SC program.

Site Controller (MU2000)

When pressing F8 to display the silos levels, silos 7-12 are 0 when they shouldn't be.
[added 7/1/04] Check the parameter 12SILO_CONFIG in the RVMs connected to silos 7-12 and make sure 12SILO_CONFIG=1.

How do I configure an RVM as an express machine (no glass)?
[added 10/14/99] An express machine has no glass material valves and doesn't accept any glass. Run SCSETUP and select an RVM type of "X" for the express machines.
If SCSETUP is not on the machine, set the REJECT_TYPES parameter to 114 (don't accept glass) in the express machine's parameter table. The file name is typically something like PARMSnnn.TBL, where nnn = last 3 digits of the RVM's serial number. If unsure of the filename, look at RVMTBLS.DB for that RVM's reference to table 04 (the end of each line indicates the table number).

How do you configure a site controller PC connected to 5-6 RVMs with 12 silos?

  • SILOS.TBL requires entries for silos 7-12
  • RVMs 1-3 should have their "12SILO_CONFIG" parameter set to 0 to use silos 1-6. This is the default, no changes required.
  • RVMs 4-6 should have their "12SILO_CONFIG" parameter set to 1 to use silos 7-12. Edit the appropriate parameter table such as PARMS210.TBL.
  • RVMs 1-3 should use the regular WEIGHT.VOU and IND_WT.VOU files for silos 1-6. This is the default, no changes required.
  • RVMs 4-6 should use WEIGHT12.VOU and IND_WT12.VOU files for silos 7-12:
    Modify/create the SERNO.LST file for each RVM and add these lines:
    V,WEIGHT12.VOU,14
    V,IND_WT12.VOU,15

How do I change the default file names for the barcode tables?
[added 10/14/99] Edit the file TEMPLATE.LST. It will look something like this:

SYSTEM=MU2000
PAYTYPE=T
T,%iA.TBL,01
W,PARMS%3.TBL,04
T,%iG.TBL,06
T,%iP.TBL,07

Typically, the name of the barcode table is nnnnnnr.tbl, where nnnnnn = 6-digit site id, r = RVM type (A, G, or P). To use the built-in default names of CBARCODE.TBL, GBARCODE.TBL, and PBARCODE.TBL, simply put a ";" in front of all 3 lines in the file that begin with "T,%i...". Run SCSETUP.

If SCSETUP is not on the system, edit RVMTBLS.DB and change the default barcode table names for each RVM serial number manually. RVMTBLS.DB will look something like this for each RVM serial number:

0,042222,I,MU2000.IMG,03/17/97-10:10:00,04/29/99-10:10:57,00
0,042222,B,MESSAGES.TBL,04/21/99-10:54:00,04/29/99-10:12:12,12
0,042222,T,CBARCODE.TBL,12/15/98-17:24:00,04/23/99-09:50:27,01
0,042222,R,COUNTERS.TBL,03/10/99-11:42:00,04/29/99-10:12:14,02
0,042222,W,PARMS.TBL,04/29/99-10:43:00,04/29/99-10:43:43,04
0,042222,W,PINS.TBL,07/10/96-16:50:00,04/29/99-10:12:25,05
0,042222,T,GBARCODE.TBL,11/09/95-13:06:00,04/23/99-09:50:56,06
0,042222,T,PBARCODE.TBL,07/24/96-15:22:00,04/23/99-09:51:19,07
0,042222,B,CASH.VOU,06/24/94-16:48:00,04/29/99-10:12:27,08
0,042222,V,CHARITY.VOU,06/29/94-15:29:00,04/29/99-10:12:28,09
0,042222,W,SILOS.TBL,04/23/99-10:02:00,04/29/99-10:12:29,11
0,042222,V,COUNTERS.VOU,08/19/94-11:48:00,04/29/99-10:12:31,13
0,042222,V,WEIGHT.VOU,08/19/94-11:48:00,04/29/99-10:12:33,14
0,042222,V,IND_WT.VOU,08/19/94-11:48:00,04/29/99-10:12:34,15

Change each reference to the barcode file names (tables 01, 06, 07 listed at the end of each line). For example, to change the can barcode table name above to "CANBARC.TBL", change the line:

0,042222,T,CBARCODE.TBL,12/15/98-17:24:00,04/23/99-09:50:27,01
to
0,042222,T,CANBARC.TBL,12/15/98-17:24:00,04/23/99-09:50:27,01

The SC2000 software was updated to version 2.45, but now the charity feature no longer works.
Make sure the parameter CHAR_TO_CASH=0. Edit/create the file CHARITY.TBL and add the line: 0,Charity_Name Where Charity_Name is the name of the charity (note: replace all spaces with "_"). Create the file SC.CMD in \MU2000 containing the following line: SetTblDBEntry R,CHARITY.TBL,19 Reboot the SC. The event log should indicate "new SC.CMD file detected". Press "L" (or reboot the SC) to force the charity table to load to the RVM.
